  1. I had done that already. What I found is that the two built in Unknown Computers (x64 and x86) are also in the All Systems Collection. Not sure if that collection is taking precedence or what. The machines are definitely unknown, brand new out of the box. Very strange but deploying to All unknown just won't work, only All systems.
  2. So I deleted the deployment to all unknown computers and created a new deployment pointing to the All Systems collection it's now working. Very weird since these devices are brand new out of the box and definitely unknown. Anyway working as I need it to now. Thanks.
  3. I have it deployed to the "All Unknown Computers" collection. It is set to media and pxe only (hidden), purpose is available. The weird thing is it did work a few times before it stopped working and i changed nothing in CM.
  4. Hey Niall. I edited my post to include what I see in the smsts log. smsts.log
  5. Hello, I'm having issues with this. It worked just fine for a bit. I imaged 2 machines using it. Then out of the blue I can't get the TS to run. The prestart VB script is running. I put the deployment ID in exactly as I see it in CM, click ok and after a few seconds I am brought to the regular TS wizard. Not sure what I'm missing. Is there a log somewhere I can check to see why it not running the hidden TS? Ok so I found the entry in the smsts log from the tablet i'm trying to image, but I'm still not exactly sure why it thinks it can't find it. As you can see in the image my ID matches. Just a standard deployment set to pxe and media only (hidden). Thanks, Mike
  6. Well i rebuilt sccm 2007 (primary standalone) and imported the old db into sql. Worked perfectly. I was just hoping someone could confirm before i did a bunch of work for nothing, but it ended up working the way I had hoped. Thanks, Mike
  7. Sorry might not have been clear. Our 2007 environment was setup as a CAS. I work for a gov agency. The parent agency controlled the CAS and all the agencies underneath were primaries. So we were responsible only for our primary site (the one that was deleted). I was just wondering if items created in our former primary site were maybe pushed up to the CAS so I could have them exported from there. Moving forward with 2012 our parent agency decided that everyone would just do their own primary site (no cas) which is what we've built and is working fine. That being said the only thing i really need access to from the old site are my task sequences. All that's left is the Database from our old 2007 primary site. Just trying to figure out the best way to restore this DB and export my TSs so I can use them as a template to rebuild my TSs in 2012. Build a lab 2007 site and restore DB? Hope that makes a little more sense.
  8. Hi all a few quick questions. We had a disaster here at that deleted our SCCM server. (VM). Apparently our server team was only backing up the packages folder and nothing else including the VMDK. Anyway, we were about to move to CM2012 so we decided that if were going to rebuild anyway might as well move to 2012. So far so good. The only other thing saved form our 2007 environment was the DB (fortunately backed up by our sql team). This was also a primary site in a hierarchy. My questions. 1. Do Task sequences created in the Primary site get pushed to the CAS and if so are they visible in SCCM or are they just in a DB. i.e could I have the CAS admin export them and send me the xml files? 2. If not, will rebuilding the a 2007 environment and importing the db work? Really I just need to get my TS's back in their XML format so I can use them to rebuild the ts's in 2012. If anyone knows of an alternate way to get the TS info from the DB please let me know. Thanks, Mike
  9. Hey Mikey, So far I've gotten the helix imaged using boot media just created from CM probably due to the helix containing both a legacy and UEFI BIOS. Luckily for me management liked the helix better than the Tab2. I contacted Lenovo to ask about the PXE boot and the impression they gave me is that these devices will boot PXE from the USB to Ethernet as long as it's a Lenovo adapter. After reading your post i assume it may be because it supports EFI PXE. I have our purchasing agent ordering a Lenovo USB to Ethernet adapter so I will report back my findings. Thanks for the post, some good information there. Hopefully some others will post their experiences.
  10. Haha. I see the issue. I went back and looked at the log again because what you said was not making things add up. I initially thought the updates ran at 12am which would have left plenty of time. What I didn't see was the 5 hiding in plain sight in front of the 12. I thought the time stamps were 12:13 am not 5:12 am which is one hour after the MW. All makes perfect sense now. Man this has been a long day. I need a beer. Hopefully I will be thinking more clearly tomorrow. Thanks Peter for opening my eyes. Much appreciated.
  11. Actually maybe some can explain the problem to me. What i'm seeing doesn't make sense. If the default run time is 35 minutes per update where is it getting 1800 minutes needed for the MW. That would be like 50 updates. But there where only like 8 updates being deployed.
  12. Can anyone tell me where to look to find out why software updates would not have run/installed at deadline? We deployed updates last night with a deadline of 8:00pm. We have a nightly maintenance window from 8:00pm to 4:00am. Typically updates run without issue, but this morning I've come in to updates being available for install. Nevermind i found it. For any other n00b that may be looking. UpdatesDeployment.log on the client, as if it could be any clearer. Sorry my brain is apparently sleeping in this morning.
  13. I am curious if anyone is successfully deploying Windows 8 to tablet pcs over a network and if so how? The problem i seem to be running into is USB to Lan. How do pxe boot with these devices? I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Is boot media with embedded drivers for the usb to lan the way to go? Looking forward to hearing thoughts and experiences on this, Our executive staff are really pushing for tablets. So far they just seem like a huge PITA. Cheers, Mike
  14. I guess already knew that having static IP info defeats the purpose of a base deployment image, i guess I was just hoping someone a lot smarter than me figured out a way to do it. I do already capture and retain static network info in my 32bit Win 7 deployment and I will do the same once I have the 64bit done. I was just being lazy in the fact that i didn't want to build the machine manually and use capture media but I guess I must. Thanks for the reply!
  15. Is it possible to build and capture in SCCM 2007 with static network info or am I just banging my head against the wall? I currently am trying to boot from media, enter network info, and trying to use the capture network to hang on to network settings through out. I have a feeling this futile though. I know I can build the machine and capture via media but I was hoping to do all though the TS. Any help is much appreciated. I wish our network section would just go to DHCP already and make my life easier. Mike
  16. Is there a way to automatically purge advertisement status messages that are older than a set criteria? I basically want to purge all of the entries that are older than say 7 days.
  17. Well i figured out a way around it. I thought I had continue on error already checked, apparently i did not. Now if there is already password it will error but move on. DUH! lol.
  18. Does anyone know if there is a way to skip the Set BIOS password step in an OSD if there is already a password set. I want the task sequence to add the BIOS password if non-existent and skip it if it is. Thanks, Mike
  19. Nevermind. I didn't realize there was a Configuration Manager Setup in the start menu. I was trying to use the installation media. Duh.
  20. I installed the evaluation version of CM 2012 RTM. Now I have a key and can't add it. All of my options are grayed out except for recover a site and uninstall.
  21. It was showing that status for like a day and a half, I started the deployment on 9/2 in the morning and by 9/3 at almost 8pm It still showed downloading 0%. I only have one server. I did a stand alone primary site which is also my only DP as I am just using this test lab to learn configmgr 2012. I'm only pushing items to one workstation. After making the changes i noted above it worked instantly. My guess is the boundary. P.S. I just picked up System Center 2012 Configuration Manager (SCCM) Unleashed because I saw you were listed as a contributor.
  22. Well I got it working. Not exactly sure what did it. I changed my boundary from active directory to IP subnet. I also added my DP to a DPG. I deleted my old Software Update Deployment and created a new one. So not sure which of those things fixed the issue but we're cooking now.
  23. I setup a test lab using Hyper-V and following the guides here. Everything seems to have gone OK, however I tried deploying software updates to my test client and get what you see in the screenshot below. I tried tracking down a log file that might tell me what is going on however nothing jumped out at me. The client has a few software update logs but I'm not seeing any errors in any of them.
  24. Awesome. Thanks again Jorgen, helpful as always. I saw that post but the title was a little misleading so I didn't open it, but very helpful indeed.
  25. I am just curious if there are steps beyond the typical enable TPM and BitLocker steps if you have an MBAM back-end. Has anyone setup an OSD for this scenario? I assume the MBAM client piece needs to be installed as well. Just trying to find the best way to encrypt laptops during the imaging process and have them connect up with MBAM or maybe i'm going about this all wrong. Any info would be great. Thanks, EDIT: Found the link below which I believe will do what I need. http://blogs.technet.com/b/deploymentguys/archive/2012/02/20/using-mbam-to-start-bitlocker-encryption-in-a-task-sequence.aspx If anyone has any info to add, please feel free to do so.
