  1. I'm not sure about that, but notice that the referenced article states: "Then create a protection group that contains locations and folders you want to protect. In the Select Group Members page of the Create New Protection Group wizard you can select all kinds of folders such as “My Documents” or “Desktop” to include them for protection" So it specifically gives an example for Folders. Therefore, you should be able to create a protection group for different folders if you want them backed up at different intervals, etc. Also take a look at this: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-ca/library/hh758007.aspx It says: You can define your protection groups in a number of ways. By workload—So that you separate files and each application data type into different protection groups. This allows you to manage workloads as a group. However recovering a multi-application server might require multiple tapes from different protection groups.
  2. Can you confirm that the OS of the Exchange servers are being monitored successfully? I want to confirm that the SCOM Agent itself is functioning correctly.
  3. Hi Mohamed, It sounds like you're trying to accomplish a few different things. First, I would suggest taking a look at the Management Packs for Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Exchange, and Group Policy. As for monitoring when something is created/deleted, I'm not 100% sure, but some of the AD MP may cover that (but not in a very detailed way). Else, Maybe ACS will tie in with security auditing.
  4. Can you provide some more detail about your SCOM infrastructure (i.e. number of MS's, etc.) You might want to start here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh241293.aspx That has the upgrade checklists which might help identify if something was missed during the migration.
  5. Do you have the SQL Management Pack installed?
  6. Hi neel436, We do have guides on the installation of VMM and App Controller on this site (I know, because I wrote them). Start with that to get the environment setup. There should also be an article on connecting App Controller to VMM. As for configuration to use the 2 products for VM deployment, that's where post-install config come with VMM. That means you need to setup your virtual networks, virtual storage, templates, etc. in VMM first. That's a little more complicated, and difficult to explain. Since networking is my weakest skillpoint, I am currently reading this ebook (Microsoft System Center: Building a Virtualized Network Solution) to help grasp the virtual networking element (or, Software Defined Networking, 'SDN' for short). Once I have finished reading the book, as I do with all technical books I read, I will put up a review, and a list of points that I found most helpful. Note that this book review will not necessarily appear on this site, but on my personal blog: http://micloud.azurewebsites.net/. It will be within the appropriate subject space (i.e. under 'VMM').
  7. Have either of you looked into using a Gateway server? It's like a SCOM Management Server, but used in DMZs, etc. The Agents report to it, the GW then compresses the data, and sends it back to the MS. This way only the communication between the Gateway and the MS are required.
  8. Hi Vicky, First off, can you clarify exactly what version of DPM you are using? For example: 2012, 2012 SP1, or 2012 R2? Also, have you applied any of the Update Rollups to the installation? If yes, which one(s)? Further, take a look at the following links: This first one is for an older version of DPM, but it mentions several things, including: dependencies on SQL Server services, Service Accounts, DPM server naming, etc. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/795e8ebc-85ca-42eb-b942-96a981b6c031/dpm-service-not-runningevent-id999?forum=dataprotectionmanager This second one mentions Service startup time, Service Accounts, and DPMSync. http://scug.be/sccm/2012/11/15/dpm-2012-troubleshooting-error-999-in-event-viewer/ Let us know how it goes from there.
  9. Is there any Exchange/SMTP event logs that show there were issues around the same time? And, is the actual time consistent or random? For example, the issue occurs sever few weeks, but always at 2:00 AM? Further, your original post stated: Once we reboot the server, it "catches up" and flushes out all pending emails and notifications Which server do you reboot? The SCSM server, or the Exchange server? Also, what version of Service Manager are you running, and have you installed that latest Update Rollup?

    Monitoring Azure

Hello Ghost_Dark, Did you notice in that article that it said the following: "All items in the list will have a “Not monitored” state, which is what we should expect since we have to specifically select what we want to be monitored amongst the resources that have been discovered by SCOM." "Now we can begin monitoring specific resources in your subscription. Select the Authoring view, and navigate to the Windows Azure Monitoring node. Right-click on the node and select the Add Monitoring Wizard" "It could be any collection of cloud services, virtual machines, or storage, and can be in any combination of staging or production slots." "On the Virtual machines page, you can now select the IaaS Virtual Machines that you have created in your subscription. In the same manner as you selected the cloud services, select your virtual machines." "Navigate to the Virtual Machine State node under the Monitored Azure Resources folder. Note that we are monitoring healthy virtual machines. One thing to note here is that the management pack does not look at any resources running on the virtual machines such as SQL Server or IIS. This is purely for the overall health of the server itself, and not any installed features or server programs running on the server. If you want that functionality, you will have add these servers to a Virtual Network so that you have IP-level connectivity and can monitor them just as you would an on-premises server." Until SCOM provides this functionality by providing an agent and updating the management pack to call the agent, you may want to take a look at MetricsHub to augment your monitoring of Azure applications and virtual machines. Out of the box, MetricsHub can display the following counters (the bold ones map to those mentioned above): LogicalDisk\% Free Space LogicalDisk\Disk Read Bytes/Sec LogicalDisk\Disk Write Bytes/Sec Memory\% Physical Memory NetworkInterface\Bytes Received/sec NetworkInterface\Bytes Sent/sec Process\% Processor Time Process\IO Read Bytes/sec Process\IO Write Bytes/sec Process\Working Set – Private Processor\% Processor Time
  11. Hi FirstCom, Quick question. Do you use SCOM? If so, can you test using the same SMTP configuration, and see if the same issue occurs? That will tell you if it's an issue with SCSM or the Exchange connector/load.
  12. First off, this question is about SCCM and not SCOM, so I will move this topic into the correct forum location. That being said, in looking at your log files, I noticed the following error: Failed to persist execution state. Error 0x(80070057) Failed to save execution state and environment to local hard disk Take a look at this thread about the disk partition step: http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4589-0x80070057/ to start. Although, that might not be it, since the log shows "Successfully completed the action (Partition Disk 0 - BIOS) with the exit win32 code 0". Then later in the log it shows "Starting to apply image 1 from install.wim to C:\" and "Wiping C:\". The fact that the log shows "Successfully completed the action (Apply Operating System) with the exit win32 code 0" indicates it's not a driver issue, at least not within WinPE. But I did notice the following in the log. Joining domain: ThomasNetwork.local Join OU: LDAP://OU=Test Computers,DC=ThomasNetwork,DC=local In case you are not aware, for a Build and Capture task sequence, you do NOT join the computer to the domain. Near the end of the log file, there is this interesting line: Driver-signing policy cannot be configured on this operating system. An administrator must always authorize the installation of unsigned drivers or a driver from a publisher that is not yet trusted. Processing driver match result. Server returned a total of 0 driver definitions. I am not sure of the root cause of that, but take a look at this TechNet article, which mentions WinPE: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/40e158dd-1a1f-43c9-a2d8-900f2255bee9/windows-7-deployment-using-sccm-2007-r2-sp2 However, that's for OSD and not Build and Capture (which you might be mixing in this case). In the final log file, when it calls the OSD Capture process, it is actually showing that your Windows installation is on D:\ instead of C:\ Target OS system root is D:\WINDOWS But it does show that "System capture successfully completed." So to sum up, it looks like you have a few areas to explore, including: OS Disk partition, driver letter assignment, not joining a domain, and WinPE. As a final FYI, please keep in mind that it is Best Practice to use a Virtual Machine for a Build and Capture process, since this is used to create your GOLD image; which you don't necessarily want bloated with drivers (drivers will should be applied during the OSD process). Let us know if that helps any, or if there are other issues.
  13. Hello Stratus66, Can you start by better explaining exactly what you are trying to achieve? To me, it sounds more like an SCCM question than an SCSM question. It sounds like you are asking how to deploy Windows Embedded. If this is so, then I will move this thread into the SCCM forum. Here's a link to information about Windows 8.1 Embedded: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsembedded/en-us/windows-embedded-8-industry.aspx. The embedded OS is used for special devices, thinks like bank ATMs, computerized restaurant systems, gas station pumps, etc. Please provide the scenario about what you are trying to accomplish, with as much detail about your environment as possible. Then we'll be able to assist you.
  14. Take a look at this article, which I think mentions how they were able to fix the error (and why it occurred). Specifically read the comments. http://www.systemcentercentral.com/scom-2012-cmdlet-export-scomeffectivemonitoringconfiguration/
  15. Based on this TechNet article (https://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh527837.aspx) which is about using the Export-SCOMEffectiveMonitoringConfiguration PowerShell command, I only see 2 command lines, and not 3 (like you have), as follows: PS C:\>$members = (Get-SCOMGroup –DisplayName “All Windows Computers”).GetRelatedMonitoringObjects() PS C:\> $members | foreach { Export-SCOMEffectiveMonitoringConfiguration –Instance $_ -Path “C:\temp\$($_.DisplayName).csv” } -RecurseContainedObjects} It does not mention your other comandline of: PS C:\> $member = $members | where {$_.DisplayName -like "*NodeName*"} I'd suggest try running it not against the "All Windows Computers" group, and pick a small group, just to test/confirm it's not choking on too much data.
  16. If you want to add an item to the Task list, then check out this TechNet article that walks you through that process: http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2010/12/22/tasks-part-2-custom-console-tasks-for-create-edit-delete.aspx
  17. HI yakirLLC, Since this tool is not something that is built into SCOM, I'd suggest checking with the developer for any update to support 2012. But in searching, I came across this TechNet forum: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/23614387-9166-4372-b339-9694939e051d/scom-2012-effective-configuration-viewer?forum=operationsmanagergeneral. It mentions that "In scom 2012, you can use powershell Export-SCOMEffectiveMonitoringConfiguration to export the rules, monitors, and overrides that apply to a specified monitoring object, calculates the effective configuration of the rules and monitors." I believe that's what you were attempting to use though. Are you attempting this through an Admin Workstation connected to SCOM? If you are getting a connection issue, I would assume that since you are attempting to get a large amount of data (i.e. "All Windows Computers"), that this is too much for it. Maybe try running the command from one of the Management Servers themselves?
  18. Were you every able to accomplish this, maybe using the Active Directory Integration Pack?
  19. Take a look at this TechNet article: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/d95495a2-5ca2-41c4-9bb6-a87d1ae23af4/dpm-installation-failed-dpm-2012-r2-id810?forum=dpmsetup The individual, although having Visual C++ present, had to uninstall/re-install it. Can you give that a try?
  20. Check out this TechNet article, that mentions possibly missing Visual C++ or the XML Parser. http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2014/09/29/support-tip-dpm-2012-r2-ur3-agent-install-fails-with-error-0x80070643.aspx PS: You didn't mention what version of DPM you are using, either 2012, 2012 SP1, or 2012 R2. Also, what OS version you are trying to install the agent onto.
  21. For the Mailbox Database Copy showing as Not Monitored, note the following from the MP documentation. The table within the documentation shows that this discovery rule is NOT enabled by default. Can you confirm that you have enabled this Discovery Rule? Can you also confirm that the server(s) running Exchange are being monitored correctly (i.e. from the OS level)?
  22. OK, first off.... That article you reference is about Exchange 2010 and not 2013. There is no reference to 2013 at all in it. Second, the article does not reference the StorageLogicalDriveSpace Monitor threshold, that you are mentioning. So I don't know where you're coming up with that. Third, the article is about Mailbox provisioning being disabled by SCOM, which has nothing to do with reporting on mailbox sizes. Please ensure that you have the Exchange 2013 Management Pack installed, and ensure that it is the latest version as there have been some changes to it. Also refer to the accompanying documentation for information on Monitors, Rules, and Thresholds. You can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39039
  23. Can you provide more details as to which Monitor or Rule you modified for the "exchange mailbox threshold"? According to the MP documentation, there is a Performance metric called Exchange 2013 Organization Synthetic: Mailbox Database Size (MB).
  24. Which Management Pack are you using? Have you looked at this community created MP: http://www.systemcentercentral.com/pack-catalog/file-system-management-pack-2/
  25. Well what's nice about the Gateway servers is, they act the Management Servers. So your Agents can report to the Gateway, which will then collect all that info and compress it before it sends it onto the actual Management Server(s).
