We are having a very difficult time locating any posts, forum topics, or ms bulletins in regards to the attached distmgr.log file. If anybody of you knowledgeable helpful users on the forum can assist in ANY way, please feel free to offer any suggestions. We currently are unable to distribute any new data, sync dp's, etc... We have performed a site reset. We have removed MP role. We have removed and replaced the mentioned file. Kind of at a loss. Short of rebuilding the main site server, I'm not too sure as to our next step. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. distmgr.log mpcontrol.log

Question regarding CAS database vs site database
Nunzi0 posted a topic in Configuration Manager 2012
I'm in the process of designing an entirely new System Center environment for my company and just have a couple of questions regarding the SQL setup for it. I know that i need a CAS hierarchy in this new setup, as it will be global. Unfortunately i have not built a CAS environment before and I'm a bit unfamiliar with the database that it runs on. My plan is to install the database instances on a clustered SQL environment, however i am just unsure if the CAS database needs to run locally on the CAS itself or not. Also, what type of data is on the CAS database itself? Is it the client data for the entire environment, or just used as a vehicle to replicate primary site data between sites? Just trying to size out the storage requirements for the databases. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks -
Hi, We have just update our 3 SCCM servers with CU 1606. We have a CAS and 2 primary site servers. Since the update the CAS replication has gone into "Replication Maintenance" The global replication ist still working but the site replication has failed since the update. When we run the Replication Link Analyser it is all green, I believe it doesn't realise there is an issue as no site replication has taken place and this is just reporting on pre-update info. We have run the fowling in SQL and there are a number of entries that aare not 7: update RCM_DrsInitializationTracking set InitializationStatus = 7 where ReplicationGroup in (select replicationgroup from vReplicationData where ID in (select ReplicationID from RCM_ReplicationLinkStatus where SnapshotApplied <>1))and InitializationPercent not in (0,100) Has anyone come across this or can help? I have attached a couple of files that may help explain the issue. Thanks Kevin

Unable to join new primary site to CAS site
ilkert posted a question in Troubleshooting, Tools, Hints and Tips
Hi All, Im hitting my head against brick walls amongst other solid objects in an attempt to resolve an issue I'm having when trying build and join a new primary site to an existing CAS in SCCM 2016. Im currently building a new SCCM hierarchy where i plan on having 1 CAS + 3 NEW primary sites. Ive built the CAS site and database just fine but now im attempting to build my first primary site which will join the hierarchy but im being presented with the following: "Setup was unable to retrieve the Software Assurance settings for the specified central administration site server. Verify that you have entered the correct FQDN for the central administration site and that it is accessible from this server" I have confirmed both my new Primary site server and the account im logging in and running the setup wizard has got admin access on the CAS server and Database server (including the appropriate access in SQL). I've also confirmed i can resolve that FQDN from the primary site. The ConfigMgrSetupWizard logs show the following: 11/1/2016 3:30:32 PM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Cannot detect SMS Type because either SiteServer, SqlServer or SiteServerName is empty. 11/1/2016 3:53:00 PM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Sql connection is established. 11/1/2016 3:53:19 PM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Sql connection is established. 11/1/2016 4:04:52 PM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Sql connection is established. 11/1/2016 4:09:48 PM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Sql connection is established. 11/1/2016 4:13:52 PM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Sql connection is established. 11/2/2016 9:57:30 AM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Information: 1 : Sql connection is established. 11/2/2016 9:58:23 AM: ConfigMgrSetupWizard Verbose: 1 : Exiting SetupWPF.exe. I'm on the verge of giving up and just building a separate primary site and joining to hierarchy later but from what ive read i think im limited to doing to only for 1 site but i may have misread that. Has anybody come across this problem or have any suggestion on things i can try to get the join to CAS option working "out of the box"? Thanks in advance team. -
Hi there I have a problem that's causing some heartache at the moment. We have a CAS and a number of child Primary Sites. The CAS is set as the "parent" SUP/WSUS server with the Primary Sites set to synchronize with the CAS. This was all working just fine until about a week ago. What's happening now is that client machines are failing their Software Update Scans (0x80072ee2) across the board. In addition IIS is pegging the Primary Sites CPU at 100% constantly. What i have tried so far is a removal of WSUS and the SUP Role from the Primary Sites and a re-install of same. Once re-installed the Primary does appear to sync correctly with the CAS (wsyncmgr.log) but the above issues just re-appear again. I'm leaning towards some kind of corruption in the CAS WSUS DB, but am open to correction. What i was thinking to try next was a complete removal of WSUS and SUP Roles across the whole hierarchy and start again but the fear i have with this is that i will lose all my Software Update Groups and "approved" updates at the CAS, and therefore, also at the Primary Sites. Obviously i'd like to avoid this at all costs. Does anyone have any advice? If i remove WSUS and the SUP Role from the CAS, will i indeed lose all of the "metadata" from a SUG/update approval perspective? Many Thanks

Hi, my name is Paul. I'm an employee in a relatively small enterprise (about 700 persons), let's call it Comp-A. My collegue and me are about to make up an SCCM hierarchy for our enterprise. We need to present it next week, which is a bit short, alas. And here are things getting complicated. I'll explain our situation. SCCM will we used to deploy pc's, servers and mobile devices for ourselves. Comp-A consists of three buildings in one city and two sattelites in two other cities. Bandwidth is no problem, we have enough fibers. So Comp-A could do with one primary site and no CAS. BUT. There is also Comp-B, about 1400 employees, this company has her own domain and her own buildings. It is totally independent. But the firewalls between Comp-A and B are wide open, due to policital reasons. We are twins. There is also Comp-C, about 120 employees. It's the same scenario: it's a seperate company but the firewalls are wide open. So we aren't twins, we are three ! Next, we have Comp-D and Comp-E. For those two we deliver pc's and their configurations and updates etc. You get the picture, Comp-A is what you could call a "service provider" for the other companies. We live in some kind of symbiose with them. Now, knowing all this, how would you organise SCCM? CAS/no CAS? SQL remote or local? Primary site in every Comp or not? And what about redundancy and high availability? We do have a huge data center with hundreds of virtual servers, fibers everywhere, a SAN, so resources are no problem.

Hey All / Niall - This is my 2nd day at a new environment where SCCM 2012 SP1 was recently introduced. It's set up as a CAS and so far the only things set up were mostly admin things like boundaries and just over 30 secondary sites. The primary site has two SCCM servers - "CCM01" (Win08R2) is the CAS and "CCM02"(Win08R2) the Primary. These are both physical boxes... When working on some packages, I noticed that there seemed to be issues with replication as I got error messages when trying to open / view / edit packages / applications when connected to CCM01 (attached below). When connected to CCM02 things worked great. I did some research and thought I'd revisit it today. This morning I came in and CCM02 (the primary) is down and out. For whatever reason, it's stuck at "Starting Windows" and even safe mode won't bypass that. My manager has been looking at it and decided that since the secondary sites are 2012, that we just blow away the old and rebuild the OS partition of CCM02 fresh and using 2012. When I open the Console, I obviously cannot connect to CCM01, but can to CCM02. Just like yesterday, I cannot view/edit/open Packages & applications, but there's only a few. The infrastructure, boundaries, and all the important stuff seems to be there still. The Issue / Question So... my question is, is there a procedure to do this? There were obviously replication issues to the point I'll probably delete and recreate all programs from scratch, but is this safe? We do have backups of CCM02, but they don't want to restore them because they said the server was built incorrectly in the beginning anyways plus want to go to 2012. Please let me know any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas - Thanks!

Hello - I'm attempting to install Config Mgr. for the first time. I following your deployement guide step for step and I'm slowly working through the issues. This error has me stumped. The first steps of the install check out.... no major warnings. However, I'm getting the following error INFO: Initializing the site control data... $$<Configuration Manager Setup><04-30-2013 09:11:06.068+360><thread=2956 (0xB8C)> Create_BackupSQLCert : SQL server failed to backup cert. $$<Configuration Manager Setup><04-30-2013 09:11:16.271+360><thread=2956 (0xB8C)> CSiteControlSetup::SetupCertificateForSSB : Failed to create/backup SQL SSB certificate. $$<Configuration Manager Setup><04-30-2013 09:11:16.271+360><thread=2956 (0xB8C)> ERROR: Failed to set up SQL Server certificate for service broker "atssql.ATS.LOCAL" $$<Configuration Manager Setup><04-30-2013 09:11:16.271+360><thread=2956 (0xB8C)> ERROR: Failed to initialize the site control data. $$<Configuration Manager Setup><04-30-2013 09:11:16.271+360><thread=2956 (0xB8C)> ~~===================== Completed Configuration Manager 2012 Server Setup ===================== $$<Configuration Manager Setup><04-30-2013 09:11:16.271+360><thread=2956 (0xB8C)> I've looked up and have tried just about every possible solution and cannot get past this error. Hi, I am rather stuck and appreciate the assistance. We have a Dev environment of System Center 2012 (Server 2008 R2, System Center 2012) that has a history of SQL replication issues between the CAS and the only Primary Site, and we finally got the ok to remove it and install from scratch. The cause of the replication issues was an upgrade from SQL standard to SQL Enterprise. The partition size was not formatted. It was before my time here, but I believe that was the case. I had to use the preinst.exe / DELSITE command to remove the Primary site, which was successful. When I open Config Mgr on the CAS, the old primary site is not there. Under Administration, Site Configuration, Sites, it only lists the CAS, no other sites listed. When I look in Servers and Site System Roles, I see the CAS and the SQLServer in the same site code. When I run the config manager install and select Uninstall a Configuration Manager Site, it prompts, Are you sure you want to uninstall the site Central Administration Site - DEV (site code is SOA)? I select Yes, and it errors out "The site has a child site(s) attached to it. You must uninstall all child sites first. Click the View Log button for more information" The log does not specify what child site is sees of course. My thought is that since there were replication issues before, the CAS is not aware that the Primary Site has been removed. I ran the preinst.exe /DELSITE ADA and the return response is: Cnnot find the site [ADA] in teh site control data in the database. Checking in ServerData in the database. Failed to execute SQL Query My thought is that is cannot connect to the SQL instance or dbase and does not "know" the parent site has been removed. Is there a way to update this manually? Or enable the CAS to get the updated site state?

Hey everyone, Happy survival of the Maya end of days! hehe. I've been looking at the SP1 beta of sccm 2012 in my lab, and also read up some on it, and i found some information that says the following: "More flexible hierarchy management with support to expand a stand-alone primary site into a hierarchy that includes a new central administration site, and the migration of a Configuration Manager SP1 hierarchy to another Configuration Manager SP1 hierarchy. (Source: http://technet.micro...ibrary/jj591552) From what i can understand, this means that you should be able to join a hierarchy currently only using a Primary Site as a top, to a CAS structure, without starting from scratch. I've got 2 separate hierarchy's in my LAB (One CAS with a Primary, and one Primary StandAlone), but i can't really seem to find out how this can be done. Is it just me thats looking in the wrong places, or have i miss-understood what they mean by this? Hope you all have a great christmas Best regards Eirik // Xandor
