  1. yeah, but some people might not want it pushed onto them i still know people who use and prefer IE6... I'll stick with FireFox myself cheers anyweb
  2. start menu shutting down
  3. Microsoft has announced it plans to offer IE8 via Windows Update. In a move that will likely anger rivals such as Apple and Google, Microsoft will be pushing Internet Explorer 8 via Windows Update. Google raised concerns back in 2006 when IE7 was originally released via Windows Update. The IE8 update will be released as the highest priority update for each operating system. For Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, it will be listed as Important. For Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, the update will be listed as High Priority. Delivery of IE8 via AU will begin after Microsoft make IE8 available from the Microsoft Download Center. Of course, users can always decline to install IE8 through AU when it is offered. via neowin.net
  4. look at this post http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m_163614/printable.htm does it help ? cheers anyweb
  5. after the restart you see this followed by some registry settings update and then completing installation (takes some time...) followed by another reboot followed by some first use preparation (startrek anyone ?) enter your user and computername info.. then password enter your product key then decide on what level to protect windows review time and date settings... (deja vu) what network to use ? finalizing settings and finally the desktop itself
  6. however here's what it looks like when you boot a pc with the dvd in the drive booting... this bit is cool, the Windows logo vibrates in and out slowly.... very nice now to the install, back to reality... more installing setup is starting... accept the EULA choose install type (upgrade or custom) tell setup where to install windows files get copied and then expanded... and finally a restart...
  7. some screenies... if you are running Windows XP and you insert the DVD you'll see this or you could just brose the dvd directly and start the install
  8. you'll have to give more info than this if you want any advice on the problem such as, what hardware setup ? cheers anyweb
  9. thanks for the update and i'm glad it's working now cheers anyweb
  10. thats normal, the shares are created by SCCM itself so you don't have to worry about that, try recreating the package that it's complaining about instead cheers anyweb
  11. i've triple checked your logs its failing on that point everytime see here it refers to the 3: itteration of that package so i really do think you need to start that package again (delete it, recreate it, redistribute it, re update the dp) also read this > http://www.myitforum.com/forums/m_177318/m..._/tm.htm#177318 cheers anyweb
  12. locate the package in SCCM and verify it has a distribution point if you check package status logs you should see some info in there about that specific package without knowing more info about your setup it's hard to say what is wrong but as before i think its either 1. this package is not distributed properly (try re-distributing it) or 2. the network drivers for your client hardware are not imported into boot.wim and as a result Windows PE cannot continue and unfortunately... reboots the computer without telling you, therefore the only way to find out is reading your logs, press F8 and see can you PING the SCCM server at this point cheers anyweb
  13. Reviewing the first beta of an important release like Windows 7 is never an easy job to do. A confouding factor is that many people have already made up their mind about Windows 7; not because they have tried it, but because it's a Microsoft product, and therefore it sucks. At OSNews we try to judge products by their own merits, not by the parent company that created it. Read on for a set of impressions regarding the Windows 7 beta. read more > http://osnews.com/story/20722/Review_Windows_7_Beta
  14. Even though the EULA accompanying the beta build of Windows 7 prohibits the publication of benchmark results (good luck enforcing that one, Redmond), everybody and their dog will still compare the Windows 7 beta to Vista and Windows XP. Adrian Kingsley-Hughes is one of those benchmarking the beta, and according to his results, the Windows 7 beta beats both Vista and XP in just about every scenario. read more > http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=3236&page=1 via > osnews.com
  15. I think this is your problem verify that you have actually distributed and updated the distribution point for that package (IHR00003) if it is updated and distributed then your network drivers are required in boot.wim cheers anyweb
  16. yup look at SMSTS.log as detailed in the link i gave you, i'll edit that post to make the LOG file name clearer cheers anyweb
  17. enable F8 support and post the log here, i'm sure its a network related problem
  18. sorry it's not my area i'd suggest you ask the Gurus on myitforum.com cheers anyweb
  19. you can set the type of advertisement to be mandatory and set it to 'reinstall if failed' keep that test collection as a place for testing new packages until you get them right then use another collection for package deployment cheers anyweb
  20. anyweb

    deploy windows xp

well to rule out any boot.wim related problems, please use either the Windows Server 2008 DVD OR use the Windows Vista SP1 dvd, if your 'ultimate' dvd is not sp1 then DONT use it cheers anyweb
  21. via neowin
  22. you should probably be creating msi packages then cheers anyweb

  25. Several Microsoft watchers have speculated that Microsoft may release the Windows 7 beta to Microsoft Action Pack subscribers on or before the 5th January. Microsoft posted a note to its partner site regarding the latest Microsoft Action Pack Subscription quarterly update kit. In the update Windows 7 is included as "download only". The packs content is due to start shipping on "January 5, 2009, depending on region, and continues with the first month of each subsequent quarter (January, April, July, and October). Allow 15 to 30 business days to receive your kit." Despite the rumours we still believe that little will occur over the holiday season and Microsoft will make Windows 7 beta 1 available at Steve Ballmer's CES keynote on January 7th. Microsoft recently sent beta invites to potential testers and Microsoft employee Scott Wylie revealed build 7004 in a blog posting last week. According to sources, Microsoft has finished the Beta 1 bits and they have been signed off as build 7000. Build 7001 and 7002 have been reserved (skipped) and 7003 onwards marks the new RC branch. Ballmer is widely expected to announce the beta to a packed hall full off CES attendees on January 7th 2009. via neowin.net
