easy, just create two packages for XP, one called Windows XP Security Updates (which includes the BulletID) and another called Windows XP All Updates, which does not include BulletinID and therefore shows all XP updates like in this screenshot or are you trying to do something else ? cheers niall

that depends on whether SCCM is controlling them via sup or not

Windows 7 is seeing success in the marketplace which I am very happy about from a security perspective. The Microsoft Security Intelligence Report has shown us again and again that the more up-to-date a PC is, the less likely it is to be infected by malware and other potentially dangerous software. So Windows 7 making strides is helpful to the ecosystem overall from a security standpoint. Success comes at a price though, through greater scrutiny and misinterpretation of some of the technologies. One of those technologies is BitLocker. I've seen numerous claims the past few weeks about weaknesses in BitLocker and even claims of commercial software that "breaks" BitLocker. One claim is from a product that "allows bypassing BitLocker encryption for seized computers." This claim is for a forensics product and has legitimate uses; however, to say it "breaks" BitLocker is a bit of a misnomer. The tool "recovers encryption keys for hard drives" which relies on the assumption that a physical image of memory is accessible, which is not the case if you follow BitLocker's best practices guidance. The product, like others used legitimately for data recovery and digital forensics analysis, requires "a physical memory image file of the target computer" to extract the encryption keys for a BitLocker disk. Our discussions of Windows BitLocker have always been to communicate that it is intended to help protect data at rest (e.g. when the machine is powered off). If a forensics analyst or thief/adversary has physical access to a running system, it may be possible to make a copy of the computer's memory contents by using an administrative account on the system, or potentially through hardware-based methods such as direct memory access (DMA). more > http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windowssecurity/archive/2009/12/07/windows-bitlocker-claims.aspx (via twitter)

what you need to do is to remove any GPO's that you have setup pointing to the WSUS server, and let configmgr (SCCM) do the rest, once you've configured your SUP sccm will take care of telling all your clients where to get the updates from cheers niall

how can I deploy Windows Server 2008 using SCCM 2007 - 3 Part Guide
anyweb replied to anyweb's question in Deploy Server 2008
in the Apply Operating System Image step of the task sequence if you are deploying the image from a captured image the drop down menu for 'image' will allow you to choose the right one, same goes for Apply Operating System Image from an installation source, choose the drop down menu called Edition in that instance. -
Channel 9’s Larry Larsen pinged me earlier today to let me know of a video they just posted to Channel 9 on the default background in Windows 7. Larry was able to talk to Denise Trabona who is a Senior UX (User Experience) Lead on the Windows Design and Research Team. Denise shares insight into how we went about designing the default background see on Windows 7 desktops (the default) and also the logon screen. If you’re someone interested in UI and the thought processes behind how and why we make things look the way they do in Windows, this video is just for you. The Deployment Guys : ConfigMgr Admin Console GUID documentor
anyweb posted a question in How do I ?
ConfigMgr allows for great extensibility to perform right click actions. You can find information on this here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc143056.aspx. Those of you that have done this before know that the first step is digging through the adminconsole.xml file to find the correct GUID in order to add your right click action. Below is a tool that nicely formats the GUIDs for the Root Node, Scope Pane and Results Pane. via Rod/Twitter > http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/rtrent/archive/2009/12/06/the-deployment-guys-configmgr-admin-console-guid-documentor.aspx more > http://blogs.technet.com/deploymentguys/archive/2009/12/06/configmgr-admin-console-guid-documentor.aspx -

Delay when Distribute Adobe Reader by SCCM
anyweb replied to Captain Medo's question in Deploy software, applications and drivers
can you explain the problem a little better ? -
don't add the driver unless you KNOW you have to add it, and how can you know ? by booting using the boot.wim from the Vista SP1 or SP2 dvd, and seeing if your compaq can get an IP address from your DHCP server, if it can, then you know that you don't need a network driver, if it cannot, then you may need a network driver... does that make sense ?
-
it should work as long as you do what has been explained in the posts here have you tried it yet ?
-
I havn't used it so can't help with that, perhaps you can write a guide here ?

Among the factors to consider, as companies ponder Windows 7 migrations, is whether to run a 32 bit or 64 bit version of the operating system. We look at the reasons why and what companies are saying. Cost isn’t the biggest consideration for Compassionate Care Hospice CIO Jeffrey Bolden when it comes to upgrading his 1,650 employees to Windows 7. Rather, in a “recession-proof business,” Bolden is focused on moving toward a 64-bit environment. Compassionate Care, the nation’s fourth largest hospice care provider with locations in 12 states, is presently running Windows XP and Windows Vista desktops and a half dozen server configurations. Their migration plans will occur on an as-needed basis, as well as when new staff are added, Bolden says. Foremost on his mind, when a full-blown migration does occur, is moving to a 64-bit environment. He’s looking for the ability “to run certain distributed database applications in the field that are currently running in a more centralized way,” he explains. “You’re going to design applications entirely differently because you’ll have much faster processing speeds.’’ full story > http://itexpertvoice.com/home/which-windows-7-is-best-for-your-company-64%E2%80%93bit-or-32-bit/

Configuring Software Update Point within SCCM
anyweb replied to anyweb's question in Software Update Point
thanks ! -
The fully integrated ConfigMgr 2007 with SP2 is now available on TechNet. Now you can install with SQL 2008 from the start, no upgrading from SQL 2005. via > http://smsug.ca/blogs/garth_jones/archive/2009/12/04/system-center-configuration-manager-2007-with-service-pack-2-x86-dvd-english-is-now-available-on-technet.aspx

ok the below is from windows-noob member Dom, and most likely from Sherry Kissinger, the MofMaster, hopefully Dom will chime in on this thread soon, I've just edited it slightly for clarity 1) Edit the following MOF files found in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\clifiles.src\hinv. a. Configuration.mof b. sms_def.mof 2) Compile the two MOF files with the command mofcomp within the folder c:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes\clifiles.src\hinv. a. Using a test workstation do a couple of Machine Policy refreshes, waiting 1-2 min between each refresh. 1. Start > Control Panel > Configuration Manager > Tab Actions > Select Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle 2. Then for good measure, take a 3 minute break. 3. Then on that client, a. invoke a Hardware Inventory Action, And b. watch inventoryagent.log on that client. If you see a line about Select Enterprise_PC, MonSN, ... from mccsinv it is going well. c. then in a few minutes you might see it pass through dataldr.log on the server. d. then wait a few more minutes, then go check resource explorer for that client.

you could try Roger Zanders client tools, or just customise the Admin Console see this post by Kim to find out how alternatively you'll have to write a web service to 'press the buttons' for you, let us know what you decide cheers niall

Re-imaging machines and software
anyweb replied to penny-dreadful's question in Deploy software, applications and drivers
verify that the machine isnt actually there twice, aka that it's marked with the same computername and obsolete, you can do a quick test, create a new direct membership in the collection, based upon System Resource, netbios name, enter the computername, select all, and see after a collection refresh if any are marked as obsolete delete the obsolete record and then verify the advertisement status to the computername again -
